Established in 2015 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia House is a celebration of culture and agriculture. While having a vast array of Australian made products, Australia House encompasses the best of Australian culture in art and food creativity.
First of all, let me introduce myself.
My name is Matthew Joscelyne. I am the founding member and creator, I have travelled vastly and worked in many corners of the world. After 30 years, I wanted to pursue the spirit of my family’s story and courage into Australia House.
I came up with the name “Australia House” as my family started building their “Australia House” as soon as they arrived in Australia and those houses still stand today so it’s now my dream to build my generations “Australia House” and inspire and create new stories and continue what five generations started before me.
My “Australia House” motto is “The Culture of Agriculture” - “Culture” is my creativity and Agriculture is my family, so I am bringing the two together. I love and respect what my family has done before me and I hope to live up to their incredible story and journey…
Australia House is inspired by my family and their foundation spirit to build a great Australia. The Inspiration for Australia House derives from the long line of incredible woman in my family.
In the Bussells of Western Australia, a beachside town and highway named after the early pioneer spirit of the family, lived Grace Bussell. Grace was second generation and became Grace Darling of WA. Grace loved filling her day with many activities, however horse riding was one of them and one day, this came in handy. On a beachside horse-ride, she noticed a sinking boat, Grace rode her horse into the ocean to save the lives of those on the boat and became a heroin.
Grace married and became a Drake-Brockman.
My Great Grandmother, Constance Drake-Brockman wrote ‘The Herald Recipe Cookbook’ to raise money for the Queen Victoria Woman’s Hospital.
My Great Aunt Lady Hackett wrote the ‘Lady Hackett’s Household Guide’. These books were both huge in their day.
Constance Mary Drake Brockman married and became a Gebhardt. Marrying another pioneer Australian Agriculture family, she started her own milk run in Whyalla South Australia in the 1930’s to survive during the drought war and the global depression.
I dedicate the company to my mother Mary-Jane Gebhardt (Joscelyne) who has held onto her family’s traditions using her mothers, her grandmothers and great aunts’ recipes which I grew up and still enjoy. Mary-Jane was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2018 for her work for 30 years for a scholarship held in my sister’s name, The Amelia Joscelyne Memorial Scholarship. Mum has the spirit of her family and all the ladies who came before her.
I celebrate these ladies in the new version of the family Cookbook, coming out in 2021. A family who pioneers farming and developed the Australian culture of cooking, providing and sharing with family and friends.
Australia House was established in 2015 and inspired by Gustav Gebhardt (first generation pioneer). Gustav founded an Agriculture business in Burra South, Australia and started the first family House and store in the 1850’s which continues to run strong today. Louise Gebhardt and her husband David now run the Station.
In 2015 “Australia House” was established as an export business to Hong Kong, China and Macau however, due to the global COVID pandemic, Australia House is now focusing on business within its own country.

The cookbook is inspired by my mother, her grandmother and her great aunt. My great grandmother produced the book in the 1930’s in the ‘Herald Recipe Cookbook’ to raise money for the Queen Victoria Hospital.
My mother’s great aunt wrote the very successful Lady Hackett’s Household Guide.
Inspired by my mother’s efforts and connection to these two books, we are now putting together a 2021 version. This will be as one modern portrait recipe cookbook with the Household Guide.
The book will be launched in Australia-wide in 2021. The book has excerpts from the original writings and entails a collection of my mother’s family heritage and friends.
